
Community DesignA registered design provides monopoly rights in the article for up to twenty five years upon the payment of renewal fees every five years. The design can be in any article as long as it satisfies two criteria: It must: What can be covered by a registered design? 1. It must be new and novel It is possible to secure design registration for an article if the application is submitted within twelve months from the date on which the article was first disclosed. This is know as the “grace period”. Please do consult us as countries outside the United Kingdom do not recognise this “grace period” and this maybe an important factor for your International Requirements. After a Community design application has been filed, it is possible to file corresponding design applications in other jurisdictions within six months from the date of the Community application.
